Start a new game, choose your first Pokemon in Pallet Town, and travel through routes, cities, forests, caves, and other areas. Talk to characters and inspect nearby objects with X, because conversations and exploration can reveal clues, useful items, and new paths. Catch wild Pokemon to build a balanced party, then train them through turn-based battles. Type matchups matter: a move that is strong against one opponent may be ineffective against another. Visit Pokemon Centers to restore your team, stop at Poke Marts for Poke Balls and healing supplies, and use the party menu to review moves or change the order of your Pokemon. Challenge Kanto's Gym Leaders, collect all eight Gym Badges, and prepare your team for the Pokemon League. Explore optional routes to find additional Pokemon and items, carry enough recovery supplies before long caves, and save before major battles. The in-game save is best for normal progress, while emulator save states provide a convenient additional backup.
